RACE NEWS & STORIES

Lars Kessler wins Eurocup series at Swansea

Lars Kessler took the Eurocup series from champion Hannu Vierikko at the last race in the series at Swansea on October 2nd and 3rd. On a weekend where the weather was not very kind, the racing was of a very high quality setting course records which will be hard to beat despite the conditions. Saturday's racing was at Singleton Park, a fine tree-laden parkland overlooking the sea of Swansea Bay on an excellent 2km circuit. The Sunday 1km sprint was, as last year, part of the Swansea Bay 10km race and fun run which attracted over 2,500 runners this year and is attended by cheering crowds. The three Eurocup categories were a 3 x 2km womens and mens relay, a womens 10km race, a mens 20km race and a mens and womens 1km sprint. The relay race was won by 'The Independents' team of Lucie Gazarkova, Anezka Zykova from the Czech Republic and Toni Davis from Leicestershire and the mens by 'The Czech Scooter Team' consisting of Milan Gazarek, Pavel Legat and Petr Hub- congratulations to both teams.

The 20km mens endurance race was won convincingly by Milan Gazarek in under 47 minutes at and absolutely blistering pace on a challenging course with some tough uphill sections and a 'technical' section with narrow track and tight bends. The womens 10km race was won by Lucie Gazarkova in just under 29 minutes, an impressive time! There must be a footbike gene!

Saturday evening was chill out, drink up and spaghetti Bolognese time at race headquarters. A very enjoyable and sometimes rowdy evening was interspersed with live music from the assembled company, unexpected bursts of song from the Czech contingent and much fun; who had had the most fun was obvious from the expressions on faces when setting out for the Sunday race.

Full Eurocup results are posted at
www.iksaworld.com and many more photographs will appear over the following days.

Watch out for news of the 2005 Swansea Eurocup and the 24h Mountain Mayhem relay race in June. We need at least 2 teams of 4 riders for the Mayhem event and as many of you as can make it to a very friendly and welcoming Swansea for the Eurocup. I look forward to welcoming many of you next year.
